A promise also holds the possibility of betrayal. A possibility of betrayal that was not there before the promise was given.
About the defocused series
The pictures are photographed over a period of twenty years.
As I started exploring the areas of the lens outside the focal plane, I was struck by the beauty and the feeling of remoteness in the defocused image.
Photography forced naturalistic painting into Impressionism and Cubism. In this context it is interesting to simplify and to abstract the photographic image in return.
All pictures in this series are straight photography. If any, the few adjustments done are identical to the ones earlier performed in a darkroom.
Every photograph is a memory of a moment lost forever. In these defocused images, the memories have already started to alter and fade.
